When publishing mogul Bradford Meade hands the reigns of his fashion magazine, Gloss, over to his son Daniel, he specifically hires Betty as his son’s new assistant – mostly because she’s the only woman in NYC who Daniel won’t sleep with.

Wilhelmina is speaking before an All Hands meeting. She is running the meeting as acting editor. She reads her “Letter From the Editor”, while Betty attempts to grab a bagel. She slips, falling down and causing a huge ruckus and mess. Marc “whispers” loudly, “Don’t worry, no one noticed”. Wilhemina continues. Betty asks why Daniel isn’t writing the Letter From the Editor. Wilhelmina calls her, “Pie Eyed, Pie eating Betty” She then proceeds to ignore Betty.

Back at the hospital, Daniel and Betty are watching Alexis. Daniel explains that Alexis doesn’t remember anything after their mom’s birthday party, two years previous. Alexis grabs her breasts (which she’d been doing a lot of), and gives an approving thumbs-up to Daniel and Betty. Alexis doesn’t know about the divorce, or Claire’s imprisonment and escape, or Bradford’s impending marriage. Betty begs Daniel to come back to work, but he refuses. He does ask her to get The Book, though. Alexis sees a story about her mother’s escape on Fashion TV.

Marc mails off the DNA samples to the lab (not his first time, he says). Amanda expresses a wish to have known Fey better. She dreams of getting a big Fey Sommers estate, says she’s waiting to hear from the probate judge. She shares a silly giggle with Marc about “probate”.

Hilda has gathered all of Santos’ stuff into their apartment Boxes are everywhere. Hilda gives Justin a sack lunch, to which he says, “You want me to bring my lunch? Mom! The famous Mode cafeteria, where Naomi Campbell has a tuna melt and an meltdown; they now have it on the menu: the Naomi Campbell Tuna Melt Meltdown” (that’s funny!)

Marc, walking behind Wilhelmina, sees Dwayne, Wilhelmina’s new bodyguard. He is scared witless. Wilhemina says she hired him to protect her from Claire. As Betty is walking into the room, Marc yells, “OMG! Its Claire Meade charging for us!” Dwayne picks her up in a choke hold, until Wilhemina calls him off. Marc is pleased with himself. Betty asks for The Book; Wilhelmina refuses. Betty sees Marc getting a set of Wilhemina’s house keys from his desk for Dwayne (there are more in the desk). He tells her that The Book is at Wilhelmina’s apartment.

After Marc leaves, she takes a key from Marc’s desk, and turns to see Henry standing before her.

Henry tells Betty that he’ll be going back to Tuscon; he’s just at mode for the job and the insurance. He’s looking forward to becoming a father. He asks Betty if that’s OK (that he’s there). She says yes, but she’s obviously thinking No. “We were young and innocent then. Ah, youth!” She says they can be buddies.

Cut to Betty telling Christina that it’s NOT OK. She says she won’t tell Henry about the doubt surrounding Charlie’s baby. They turn and go into Wilhemina’s apartment (which Christina didn’t now they were going to do).

Justin arrives at Mode. Marc immediately tests him with menial tasks. He has Justin update Wilhemina’s contacts in her Blackberry. A lawyer arrives at the front desk; Amanda is excited to think she might be receiveing a fortune. Unfortunately, all of Fey’s assets were sold off and the money given to charity-except for a Chinese Crested (very ugly dog) named Halston. Amanda gets him, and a thousand dollar a week allowance, so Amanda takes him.

As she and Betty are going through Wilhemlina’s apartment, Christina says, “I can’t believe we’re in Lucifer’s chamber…Beelzebub’s lair…the devil’s rumpus room…Oh, look! A picture of Wilhelmina with Dick Cheney!” (Hilarious – risky, but hilarious). Also: “Ten bucks says there’s a coat in there made of dalmation puppies”. They find The Book, but the Wilhelmina appears for a tryst with Dwayne. Betty and Christina hide under the bed. Afterward, they escape, but Betty leaves behind an earring.

Bradford has a change of heart and starts to bond with his now more boyish daughter. He doesn’t tell her about Wilheina.

Ignacio speaks to Hilda over the phone, and convinces her to get rid of all of Santos’ things, but one thing to hold onto (this is what he did with his wife’s things when she died). Ignacio hatches a plan to cross the border into the US illegaly (again).

Wilhemina finds Betty’s earring and says, “I smell a burrito”.

Marc has a tirade toward all the interns; he is not happy with the way they prepared for Shakira’s photo shoot. He dismisses them all except Justin, with whom he is pleased. Wilhemina calls and tells him to get dirt on Betty. Marc looks at Justin and say, “I hear you loud and clear” He asks Justin about hs family.

Amanda’s dog apparently emits quite an odor. Halston then faints.

Wilhemina has Marc tell Betty to meet her on the roof, immediately. She goes there; it is filled with mannequins, and Wilhelmina is there. She holds up the earring and says “I believe you lost something”. We then hear thunder; Betty looks to the perfectly blue sky and then turns to see Marc wiggling a piece of sheet metal to make the thunder sound! Brlliant! Wilhemina tells Betty that if she stays quiet, The Senator can help Ignacio get his visa.

Neither Daniel nor Bradford can tell Alexis about Wilhelmina.

Marc gives Justin a pass to the Shakira shoot. At this time, Justin finally remembers that his father is gone, and Marc lends a sympathetic ear, if only for a moment. He also plots with Amanda to get rid of the dog.

Betty has a dream sequence with her dad, telling her to take Wilhelmina’s side so he can get home.

Henry talks to Christina, who finally decides to tell him about the possibility of the baby not being his.

Amanda and Marc take Halston to the animal shelter, but when the person at the front desk tells them that no one will adopt him because he’s so ugly,Amanda has a change of heart. She decides to keep him.

Justin goes into a market to get rice cakes for Shakira, and discovers its the market where his father got shot. The owner tells him that Santos was a hero. He says, “I’ll bet you’re just like him. Justin replies, “No, I’m not”.

Daniel comes back to Mode. Betty starts to tell him about Wilhelmina (to incriminate her), but Ignacio calls and tells Betty about his plan to cross the border. Betty tells him not to do anything yet.

She makes the deal with Wilhelmina.

Hilda and Justin decide to keep just one thing from Santos. Justin chooses a basketball.

Daniel puts Wilhelmina in her place, but she doesn’t put up a fight. She passive-aggressively reminds Betty about their deal.

Bradford tells Wilhemina that he’s like to postpone the wedding. As she pretends like everything’s OK with that decision, the flames rise in the fireplace to illustrate her anger. She goes to the roof and starts destroying mannequins with a baseball bat.

Hilda tells Betty that Ignacio is coming home (Betty already knows), but Betty is quite distracted with the deal she’s made.

A man shows up at Ingacio’s house in Mexico and points a gun at him. It must be the hit-man.

Henry then shows up at Betty’s door, drunk. He tells Betty he knows the baby may not be his. He knows Charlie cheated on him. He says that he wants to be with Betty. Fade to black.

I’m Coming Out
It’s Fashion Week in New York and Betty is hustling to ensure “MODE’s” runway show goes off without a hitch. But to Betty’s dismay, Daniel offers a now-unemployed Hilda a job helping out with the show. Betty is not too happy working alongside her sister because Hilda has taken the spotlight away from Betty. Because of their previous experiences which resulted in Betty losing jobs when they were working together, Betty tries to keep Hilda out of sight by giving her jobs where she won’t be seen. However, those attempts fail miserably. On top of that, Justin wants to tag along to the event too.
At the event Henry tells Betty about the message he left with Hilda–which Betty never received–and the tensions escalate between the sisters. As Betty sees Hilda working as a hairstylist, a war of words ensues. Betty then fires her sister after a hairspray fiasco and later sees Hilda kissing Daniel. When Betty tells her the reason that she didn’t want Hilda working with her, Hilda assures her that she’s not interested in stealing her sister’s spotlight and offers an apology for not telling Betty about the phone call. She explains that she was just trying to protect Betty but realizes Betty can take care of herself. Betty in turn tells Hilda that she might have a future in Cosmetology.
Back at the Suarez home, Ignacio is confused to see that Constance forgot to turn in his paperwork. The visit is made worse when things become more personal after Constance breaks down and starts crying, telling Ignacio about her breakup with her now ex-boyfriend. When Ignacio later tells a visiting Walter, who’s an eyewitness to what is happening (after Constance shows up with groceries and cooks them gumbo) about this, Walter suggests he calls Constance’s ex, and try and get them back together, to get Constance’s attention off Ignacio. After the ex shows up, Ignacio learns from him that Constance has a habit of seducing male clients in order to get green cards, and suggests that Ignacio go along, which is how the ex got his.
In other scenarios, Wilhelmina is introduced to a new “cosmetic technique” (using “duck sauce”) after a visiting Fabia criticizes her looks and calls her “Wrinkle-mina.” But when Wilhelmina wakes up and sees the results, she is in shock and forces Marc to be her “Seeing-eye gay.” She dons a pair of black glasses, leaving her blind as a bat due to the swelling…not to mention being fooled by Fabia, who laughs after seeing that Wilhelmina took her phony advice.
As Christina prepares for the debut of her very own designs, she is miffed at why Wilhelmina finally chose her. Wilhelmina then tells her that one of the models will be changed for the finale in favor of a last minute replacement (Alexis).
Marc and Amanda resume their scheming ways in a mission to steal what will be the season’s hottest fashion item. Marc is reluctant to let Amanda in, but when he is forced by Wilhelmina to stay by her side he lets Amanda in on the details, leading a frenzied scramble to nab the must-have item.
Meanwhile, Daniel is moved by his father’s decision to hand over the reins of Meade Publications, when a visit from an old friend coaxes him into his old ways. At the event Daniel is tempted by his friend to score with a hottie and when he sees a stunning face [Alexis] show up, he attempts to score with her. The two talk, and Alexis shocks Daniel by revealing that she used to be his brother Alex, but had gender-reassignment surgery and is now a woman. She claims she always felt like she was in the wrong skin growing up, and tells Daniel to look into her eyes…”That’s the only thing they couldn’t change.” Daniel is very upset over this revelation, as the family mourned for Alex, and thinks about him every day. Daniel also blames Alex’s “death” for Claire’s struggle with alcoholism, and a war of words heats up between the two. Daniel later takes off and grabs a bottle to calm down and is joined by Hilda after her fight with Betty.
As the chaos ensues among the individuals, nothing can prepare them for the frenzy that follows when the final set of the “MODE” show, featuring Christina’s designs, is abruptly halted by Alexis finally coming out of the woodwork to show Bradford his “daughter” and to watch him get arrested. This immediately caused Christina to lash out at Wilhelmina, Justin and Hilda to take photos, Marc and Amanda’s jaws to drop, and Daniel to ask Betty what it’s like to have a sister.

In or Out

In the weeks that have passed since Sofia’s deception, we find the Suarez’s at a Mexican restaurant, where in the midst of a conversation between Betty, Justin and Ignacio, Hilda runs in and informs her family that Herbalux has been recalled by the FDA and she is without any income. Betty tries to tell her that it will all be okay. She then offhandedly remarks that she needs to pick up Daniel’s dry cleaning and run a few errands for him. Hilda points out that she’s not his assistant anymore, but Betty says she needs to look out for him. Hilda tells Betty that she is such a good person for worrying about Daniel. Betty tells her sister that you have to do what you have to do, and puts back on her sombrero hat (filled with nachos) and goes back to waiting tables….her new job at Burrito King.
Over at the Wilmont Clinic, Wilhelmina and the mystery woman are informed by Steve, the private eye Wilhelmina hired (who still smells of casket stench) that the price is $1,000,000 to make it look like Bradford is responsible for Fey’s death. The mystery woman insists to Wilhelmina that they have to move quickly once she pays the money and that if there is anyone she (Wilhelmina) doesn’t trust at MODE….now is the time to fumigate! Wilhelmina then goes back to her office and discusses with Marc who is in and who is out at MODE. She opens her secret compartment with pictures of MODE’s employees, half of whom are placed on a side labeled “In” and half are on the side labeled “Out”. Christina is placed on the center line, not quite out (because she knows Wilhelmina’s true measurements) and not quite “In” (because Wilhelmina has trouble understanding her accent at times). Amanda is on the out list because Wilhelmina sees her as loyal to Daniel. Marc tries to defend Amanda, but Wilhelmina insists that until Amanda proves her loyalty to Wilhelmina, she is out!
Across town, a scruffy Daniel is living at his loft in a deep depression. He hides in the closet when Betty shows up to deliver his dry cleaning. Betty is shocked at the mess she sees (food on the bed and papers are all over the floor). She hears a noise and grabs a tennis racket for defense, and puts a whistle in her mouth. She opens the closet and finds Daniel all scruffy and bummed out in pajamas and a robe. She says she can’t believe he lied to her and didn’t go to Rio as he claimed. She tells him next week is Fashion Week and the company needs him. Daniel high-fives Betty for quitting her MYW job with Sofia. He tells Betty that when he goes back to work at MODE, he wants Betty back as his assistant.
The next morning, while Betty and her family have breakfast, Hilda gives Betty advice on men while preparing to go job-hunting. She kids Betty about Henry at MODE, but tells her Walter is the kind of guy Betty can settle down with. Betty wonders aloud that if she did settle down with Walter, would she be settling down, or just settling? Betty then meets Daniel on the way to work. She sees he’s used a self-tanner (“You look like an Oompa Loompa”) to make people think he’s been to Rio. Daniel is unsettled to see posters of MYW’s first issue, featuring Sofia’s article “From Fling to Ring in 60 Days!” plastered on buses and walls, complete with the Daniel-Sofia cover shot. Betty reminds Daniel that he can do this; he can go to work and survive if he runs into Sofia. Meanwhile, at MODE, Wilhelmina starts taking charge, but is thrown into shock when Marc comes running in to tell them Daniel is back. They are even more shocked when Betty arrives right behind Daniel. Marc and Amanda, under their breaths, wonder if they hit Betty with a stick, if candy would fall out. Daniel stiffly hugs Wilhelmina, who pretends she’s glad he’s back. Unbeknownst to Wilhelmina, handprints from Daniel’s self-tanner are on the back of her white dress. Daniel takes Betty and Amanda into his office and tells them they are both going to be his assistants.
As for the now-unemployed Hilda, she gets door after door slammed in her face on her job hunt. She makes it back home, checks the messages on the answering machine and erases the job rejections. However, Justin’s teacher called, thanking her for the cupcakes that Ignacio made and insisting “there’s money in them.” Light bulbs start to go off in Hilda’s head.
Back at MODE, Betty tells Amanda that they have to build up Daniel’s confidence again. Betty has an idea and tells Amanda to put 8pm on Daniel’s calendar for tonight. Betty then goes to Christina and they begin to search for a new fling to take Daniel’s mind off Sofia. Betty gets sidetracked when she sees a stunning outfit on a mannequin–it’s Christina’s personal design for Fashion Week.
At the Suarez house, an excited Hilda rushes in and tells Ignacio she now has her own company….Grandma Suarez’s Cupcakes! (“I could be the Latina ‘Mrs. Fields!’”) She says a diner has agreed to sell them and that they need 500 by tomorrow morning.
Later on, Bradford stops by to see Daniel and tells him he needs to focus on Fashion Week. Betty takes Christina’s advice and contacts supermodel Gisele’s (presumably Gisele Bundchen) people to arrange a dinner date for her and Daniel. Marc tells Amanda she needs to sabotage both Betty and Daniel to prove her loyalty to Wilhelmina. Marc shows Amanda the secret bulletin board in Wilhelmina’s office, with Amanda on the “Out” list. Amanda tells Marc she can’t betray Daniel, but Marc insists she has to.
Daniel tells Betty he’s not ready to be set up with anyone yet, but Betty tells him this is exactly what the tabloids need to see, him on the arm of a supermodel. When Marc tells Amanda that Daniel will always choose Betty over her, Amanda tells him she is on the team that is staying. She calls Gisele’s people (pretending to be Betty) and says Daniel needs to cancel their dinner plans for tonight.
Daniel shows up at the restaurant and takes his seat. He insists to the waiter that his date will be there anytime now, while everyone in the restaurant stares and paparazzi take pictures from outside. Back at the Suarez’s, Betty walks in to find the kitchen has been turned into a business for Hilda! Ignacio begs for help in controlling Hilda because she is forcing him, Justin and a Korean neighbor all to work like crazy on the cupcakes. Hilda even barks orders at the neighbor in Korean to go faster.
Daniel calls Betty and tells her Gisele hasn’t shown up. Betty rushes to the rescue and takes a seat at Daniel’s table. She tells Daniel that as far as the tabloids know, he’s just meeting with his adoring, witty business assistant and discussing her much deserved raise.
Wilhelmina gets a delivery with all the information needed to frame Bradford for Fey’s death. They mystery lady tells her this must be taken to the police by someone with no connection to Wilhelmina. Back at her office, Wilhelmina looks at the “in and out” board and sets her sights on Christina. For years, Christina has submitted her own designs for Fashion Week, but Wilhelmina, who is in charge of choosing whose designs are shown, has never picked Christina’s. Wilhelmina goes downstairs and tries to butter Christina up by telling her that if she does favors for the right people, she could make it as a designer. Christina holds out and says she knows how Wilhelmina works, and that she would rather make it on her own.
Back in Brooklyn, Daniel and Betty manage to lose the paparazzi on the streets and duck into a cozy pizza restaurant. Betty tells Daniel that he is a much better person now because he was ready to put his heart out there for the real thing (Sofia). She says she wishes she could feel that way. Daniel says it’s obvious that Henry is really into her. Daniel then freaks out as Betty drags him up onstage to sing karaoke. She insists they have to because the price is half off if you sing. Although Daniel protests, “But I’m rich,” they head up and do a rendition of “I Got You Babe” and look like they’re having fun.
Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, they stop to admire the Manhattan night skyline. Daniel says he’s never seen the city from the other side before. “That’s the only way I’ve ever seen it,” Betty replies. After they appreciate the scene, the talk turns to Daniel’s late brother, Alex. Daniel opens up to Betty about how Alex used to call Daniel and have him meet Alex at some after-hours diner and just hang out and talk, much like he and Betty are doing. Betty gently asks how Alex died, and Daniel says he died jumping out of a helicopter to ski on Mt. Juneau; ski lifts were too tedious for him. But Daniel says at least Alex died as he lived, full of life.
Betty tells Daniel she can’t be with Henry–she can’t compete with a model that “weighs less than (Betty’s) shoes.” Betty explains that she saw Henry kissing Daniel’s ex-girlfriend Aerin at the company Christmas party. Daniel reassures Betty that she doesn’t need to worry about Aerin, because she kissed about six guys at the party; “to Aerin, that’s like asking ‘where’s my coat?’” Daniel warmly tells Betty she’s much better than a model anyway, and Betty smiles.
Hilda makes her first cupcake delivery and rushes back with a check for $181. She then tells Ignacio the diner doubled the order for tomorrow. An exhausted Ignacio tells his daughter they actually lost money because they had to buy equipment, ingredients, etc. He tells Hilda he can’t help anymore, so Hilda insists she’ll just do it herself. She stays up all night working on the cupcakes and greets Betty when she finally comes in. Hilda is taken aback that Betty was on a “date” with her boss, but Betty shrugs it off and tells her it was just a business dinner. Suddenly, they smell something burning… the cupcakes. Hilda has a breakdown and begins to cry. She tells Betty that she (Hilda) is 30, and doesn’t have anything to show for herself. She says Justin is the best thing that’s ever happened to her, but she can’t help but wonder what her life would be like if she wasn’t a single mother, which Justin overhears. Betty tells Hilda that she is a super mom and that this was meant to happen so that she could go on to bigger and better things.
The next morning, a surprised Amanda sees the paper with pictures of Betty and Daniel at the restaurant. When Betty comes in, Amanda shows her to her new (larger) desk and admits that she and Betty have one thing in common: they both want what’s best for Daniel. Betty will be Daniel’s only assistant, and Amanda asks Daniel for her old job back (“with a big raise, since I’m now way overqualified.”)
Christina, who has been considering her options, reluctantly goes to see Wilhelmina and asks what a woman would have to do if she wanted to be something besides a seamstress. Wilhelmina hands Christina a package and tells her to drop it off at the nearest police station–anonymously. Christina takes the package and leaves.
Wilhelmina then goes to the clinic to see the mystery lady and tells her the package is being delivered as they speak. The mystery lady then walks out of the shadows, with all of her bandages removed, wearing a stunning dress. Posing in the mirror, the woman asks Wilhelmina how she looks. Wilhelmina responds, “Looks like that… ‘skiing accident’ really paid off… ‘Alex Meade’.” The woman smiles at Wilhelmina and tells her, “Alexis, darling. It’s Alexis now.”

Sofia’s Choice

The show begins with a scene of Betty desperately trying to get onto the closed set of the live filming of a television show to see Daniel. She was apparently told that she specifically was forbidden to pass, and guards carry her away as she screams to Daniel, who is about to go on television.
Then the screen flashes: 24 hours earlier…
…To where it all began, at MYW, where Betty, who just after settling into her new job and meeting another unattractive doppelgänger named Ruthie (played by Amanda’s actress, Becki Newton), gets her first assignment from Sofia. She wants Betty to write an article about her experience of being an outsider at MODE. When Betty informs her that she doesn’t feel comfortable doing an article like that yet, Sofia breaks down in tears and tells Betty that she feels this is where she loses Daniel…just like all of the other girls. She informs Betty that this is her chance to make it big and that she needs to get over to Mode and get started on the article. When Betty leaves Sofia cuts the act and quickly wipes away her fake tears.
So Betty goes back to MODE to see Marc first and gets his feedback about his first impression of her when she came to work at MODE. He frantically cleans the office in preparation for Wilhelmina’s return. He shows her a screensaver collage that he has on his computer of his favorite Betty pics that make him laugh. Betty tells him that he had better delete all of those or she will tell everyone about his personal profile on a certain website he’d rather people didn’t know about. Betty goes to Amanda next for her article. Amanda tells her that she hated her because she got the job that she was after for so long. She then tells her that she later became a little envious of her but that it doesn’t mean that they are friends.
At the Slater apartment, Wilhelmina and Ted continue to become closer and progress with their relationship. Ted brings out an obviously different side of her that her employees never get to see until today. When Wilhelmina arrives at the office, everyone is shocked to see her in a good mood. She was even nice to an employee whom she had just fired. She tells Marc that Ted took her shopping at an outlet mall and she was able to shop right alongside of fat people. Later Marc brings a delivery for Wilhelmina to her office and almost faints when he opens it. Wilhelmina is thrilled to find a stuffed armadillo that Ted has sent her.
Meanwhile at the Suarez’s, Ignacio and his caseworker, Constance Grady, have a falling out. He tries to get a new one but she returns to his home and stresses to him that she can’t just be gotten rid of like a pair of socks. Hilda suggest to her father that he should try being nice to her and maybe start by getting her a small gift.
Back at MODE, Betty catches Daniel and informs him that Sofia was downstairs crying and that if he doesn’t want to lose her…he knows what he needs to do. Betty leaves MODE and grabs some lunch from a hotdog vendor. She sees Sofia exit a cab across the street and approach Hunter (her ex, who supposed to be in Europe). Betty hides behind the vendor and spies on Sofia while shoving down her lunch. She sees Sofia put some money in Hunter’s shirt pocket and hop back in the cab. Hunter then enters a male strip club (called “Boylesque”) and Betty runs back to MODE. Betty goes straight to Christina and tells her that she saw Sofia with Hunter and when she tells her about the bar, Christina suggests they investigate more since Christina is a frequent patron of the establishment.
Wilhelmina and Ted have lunch and she thanks him for the gift. She tells him that she is now focusing on the important things in life…versus “hemlines and heels.” Ted informs her that he is carrying around a lot of baggage. She stresses that everyone has baggage, but that they can work through it. Wilhelmina goes to see the mystery woman (she brings photos of her and Ted, but our bandaged person is not interested as she throws them to the ground) and tells her that plans sometimes fail and that the attempt to take over Mode may not happen. She tells Wilhelmina that if she isn’t with her then she must be against her. Wilhelmina says to let the chips fall where they may and leaves.
Daniel takes Sofia to his father’s house to have dinner with both of his parents. Claire introduces herself as his alcoholic mother and takes Sofia away to see some of Daniel’s baby pictures. They finally sit down to dinner and Sofia is shocked to find out that Daniel’s brother had died. They begin to talk about her life growing up and she informs them that she wasn’t raised with a silver spoon in her mouth…and that they could barely afford plastic ones. They later retire to the family room and tell Sofia that sometimes a marriage can be awful, but when bad things happen you realize that you could have never survived it without your partner. Daniel’s parents get up and begin to dance…Daniel and Sofia follow their lead. Claire tells Bradford that she does like Sofia, but that she thinks that she is hiding something. Unfortunately, Claire’s instincts were right.
Across town at the same time, Betty and Christina go to the strip club to find out more information about Hunter (“The 9″) as he is known in the club. Christina gets sidetracked with all of the male dancers and Betty tries to keep focused on the task at hand. They finally get Hunter over to them and continue to tip him so that he will talk to them. Betty is startled to find out that Sofia hired him to play the part of her fiancé. Betty immediately calls Daniel to tell him the news but before she can get it out, Daniel tells her that he has just proposed to Sofia. He thanks Betty for their talk earlier today because it helped him make the decision. Betty can’t think of anything to say but “congratulation,” and hangs up.
Wilhelmina makes plans for her and Ted to go to the opera. She notices his bag on the floor and she asks what is going on. He informs her that he talked to his ex-wife today and feels that he must try to work things out with her. Though obviously hurt, Wilhelmina tells him that they probably never had a real chance anyway (what chance would a roadrunner and an armadillo have?) and lets him leave. She then numbs herself and turns back to her old attitude (She even ran into the same guy she had fired and asked him why he was still there after she’d fired him). After she returns Marc tells her that Steve, the private investigator who was working for Bradford but turned out to be a traitor, called, and she goes to answer his message.
The next day at work when Betty approaches Sofia with her morning coffee, Sofia ask her where she got it…”Hunter’s crotch?” Sofia informs her that she hired Hunter because she had to keep Daniel on his toes so that she would not end up like the other girls. Sofia grabs her coat and tells her that she and Daniel are announcing their engagement on the air this morning. Betty insists that she will grab her things and head right down, but Sofia instructs her to stay there and finish the article about working at MODE. While on her way back to her desk Betty notices two of Sofia’s team members (Ruthie and a disabled person who describes herself as “Handi-capable”) reviewing her latest article that has just been sent to press. Betty can’t believe the title, “Fling to Ring in 60 Days,” which the ladies tried to shield from Betty after she asked to see the advance copy. Betty then grabs the article from them and the chase is on. With Ruthie on foot and the other on wheels (in a wheelchair), the two employees chase Betty all the way to the elevator. The doors shut just in time and Betty is safe to read the article. She is able to see all of the steps that Sofia recommends (to get a proposal in 60 days) in her relationship with Daniel in a series of flashbacks of Daniel and Sofia’s interactions. Betty rushes over to Christina and tells her that it was all a lie and hands her the article.
Which brings us back to what happened at the start of the episode, as Sofia and Daniel are about to go live on the air when Betty rushes in. Security guards carry Betty out of the studio as she screams for Daniel. The show begins and Sofia tells the morning show hosts all about her new magazine. She tells them that she is also sitting there with the most notorious bachelor in Manhattan…and that she got him to propose to her in 60 days. Daniel squirms as Sofia holds up the article and tells the audience that they can do the same thing. Daniel admits that he was not aware that she was doing this, but that they have fallen in love. Sofia turns to Daniel and informs him that he is the one who has fallen in love. She takes the ring off and hands it to him. While all of Manhattan watches the television show, Sofia tells Daniel that she has to focus on her work right now.
After the show ends Daniel tells Sofia that he can’t believe she did this to him. She insists that this is how he has treated numerous girls. She informs him that she had to do it and that this is how she has gotten to where she is today. She tells him that for what it is worth, he was so much more that she thought he would be. Daniel leaves the studio in a total state of shock. Betty tries to stop him to convey how sorry she is, but he doesn’t even notice her there. Bradford stands by Daniel at his house and offers to fire Sofia, but Daniel insists that the stunt that she pulled will probably get him the biggest launch of any magazine he has ever had.
Sofia enters the office to thunderous applause from all except Betty. Sofia tells Betty that she does believe in her potential and that she sees a lot of herself in her. Betty hands her the article that she has written about working at MODE and tells her that at least the people that work at MODE don’t pretend to be what they’re not. Betty informs Sofia that she is nothing like her and tells her that she quits! Betty turns around and leaves.
Ignacio makes his caseworker’s day by giving her a little gift. She hugs him ecstatically and tells him that she hopes to be seeing a lot more of him. Ignacio sits stunned on the couch as she leaves.
Amanda greets a unsuspecting Sofia as she gets into the elevator to leave for the day. When the doors close Amanda drops her cunning smile and starts beating Sofia with her purse as the doors close and the elevator creeps slowly to its destination. Meanwhile, Betty goes to see Daniel at MODE, but Marc quickly informs her that he was last seen at JFK this morning and that no one knows where he is!

Betty works at her desk which is lit only by Christmas lights, while Christmas music plays in the background. Henry walks up and they flirt a little. Henry looks at some greenery she has on her desk. “Is this mistletoe?” and leans in the plant one on her. Henry smiles and says, “Wow. You know what, Betty? You’re just the girl I’ve been looking for. “Betty wakes up with a start, wearing headgear and plastic rollers. She sighs and flops back on her pillow.
Over at Daniel’s, he is watching Sofia sleep. After she wakes, she’s insistent Daniel date other women while she is gone in order to be sure “all this is real”. He assures her he loves her, but she counters with “Oh, Daniel, what do you know from love? Heart racing, palms sweating, you can barely breath when you see me.” She tells him this is not a sign of true love, and that he should see other woman. If these women don’t make his palms sweat, heart race and all that, that maybe what they have is real. Daniel is perplexed at her suggestion. Back at Betty’s, Hilda assures her that just because she had a dream about Henry means nothing. She recounts a little about a dream she had about her and a local bakery owner to prove her point. She reminds Betty that as long as nothing happens between her and Henry, it’s harmless. Ignacio comes in and we learn that he’s has been assigned to the ISAP program (regarding the INS situation) and they’re sending over a case worker next month. There’s a crash and scream outside, and Hilda and Gina comes rushing in the house. Hilda ran over Gina’s tree. “I was aiming for you, ” she blurts out.At Mode, Marc comes in to Wilhelmina’s office with bagels, wondering when Nico is coming home. Turns out Nico is spending Christmas with her dad in Dubai. “Beside, you know Christmas morning for me are all about martinis and Valium,” Wilhelmina says. As Marc bites into the whole wheat bagel, he reminds Wilhelmina they are sharing everything after he learned of her “mysterious friend.” She relents. At a staff meeting, Daniel announces there must be cuts and they start with having the Christmas party at the office. He then tells everyone that Betty was offered a job at Sofia’s magazine, MYW. He tells them if they are interested in the job to leave their resume with Betty. Betty worries to Daniel she can’t find the right person to “look out for him”. Marc and Amanda speculate about throwing Betty a good-bye party and not inviting her. Amanda reveals she thinks she would be perfect for the job.Back in Daniel’s office, he’s told Betty about Sofia wanting him to date other women. “She seems to think some other woman will make my palms sweat, my heart race they way they do for her.” He tells her he’s never been good at fidelity, but he’s done being a bachelor. He then takes out several engagement rings from Tiffany’s. He knows Sofia is the one. Betty reminds him that Belle Jolie is sending over models in lingerie today, which makes Daniel look a little queasy. Betty returns to her desk to find a stack of résumés and a present which turns out to be a journal. The title page says “For all you great ideas at MYW”. The look on her face reveals she thinks it’s from Daniel. She catches his eye and gives him a thumbs-up of thanks for the gift. Daniel looks confused and gives her a thumbs-up back.Amanda tells Betty she wants the job, and Betty reminds her of her and Daniel’s terrible history. She convinces Betty to let her throw the holiday party because she has a lots of connections around town and can call in favors. Betty agrees because she is swamped with work. Then Amanda tells Betty the fake snow she ordered arrived.Betty struggles awkwardly with the gigantic bag of fake snow and manages to run right into Henry. The snow flies up into the air. Henry reaches over to brush the snow from Betty’s hair and immediately apologies for being unprofessional. He offers to help clean it up and as they both lean over they bump heads. In an echo of the line in her dream, Henry says “Actually, Betty, you’re just the girl I’ve been looking for.” He tells her he is monitoring the budget for the show and says, “I guess I’ll be on top of you for the next couple of days.” They look uncomfortably at each other and Henry adds “Party-wise.” When he leaves, Betty looks down at her palms to note they are sweaty. And she’s breathing quite hard as well. “O crap,” she says.Back at Daniel’s office, the models have arrived and one of them is Daniel’s ex-girlfriend, Erin. Another pile of résumés is on Betty’s desk, including Amanda’s. Betty sees Erin hitting on Daniel, so she runs into to mention his girlfriend’s plane has landed safely and that the photo department is ready for the models. They leave.Later at Walter’s office party, Betty meets Walter’s boss and his wife Jackie. They pose for a photo and the boss welcomes Betty to the office “family”. Jackie tells Betty she used to work in advertising in Manhattan. She is sure Betty will tire of the city also. “We’re Queens’ girls, Betty… we belong here.” Betty looks a little queasy. Back at Mode Marc is shaking the presents under Wilhelmina’s tree. She comes in, and he hurriedly hides behind the tree. Wilhelmina makes a call to the mysterious woman who asks “Have you come up with a solution to our little problem?” Wilhelmina says, “You mean Marc? I’m working on it. He won’t be a problem much longer. After I’m done, he will be silenced. Permanently.” Wilhelmina leaves after adjusting an ornament on the tree. Marc looks scared and gets out his inhaler.Amanda sneaks into Daniel’s office and squeals as sees the Tiffany’s boxes. She opens them and nearly passes out at the sight of a huge canary yellow diamond. She tries it on, after moaning with longing, she tries to remove it with no luck.Back at Walter’s office party, Jackie talks to Betty about how she knew her husband was “the one”. “He took my breath away. Still does,” she says. She asks Betty when she knew Walter was “the one.” Betty tells her she hasn’t had that moment yet. Jackie tells her it will come, and that she heard Walter thinks Betty is “the one”.In the Mode elevator, Bradford’s henchman tells him that a relative claimed Fey’s remains from the morgue, and there’s paperwork to prove it. After examining the paperwork, this assures Bradford that Fey is really dead. The next morning Marc brings bagels into Wilhelmina’s office again and she rejects them, reminding him that yesterday was “carb day.” She tells him he should come to the party “You never know what surprises might be in store.” Marc looks freaked as Wilhelmina asks him for his home address, saying she is sending a special delivery for him. He gets out the inhaler again.Betty is walking a chatty girl to the elevator, who tell Betty she’s perfect for the job. Betty’s not impressed. Amanda has gloves on to hide the ring. She updates Betty on the party, and Betty is impressed with Amanda, but she still thinks she not right for the job.Another present appears on Betty’s desk. It’s a snow globe. Henry bring over ornaments to help save money. Amanda’s got it covered, she says, while visibly trying not to look at him too much. He notices her snow globe and tells Betty they used to use gold foil for the snow. Up until he came to New York, he’d never seen real snow and thought it looked like gold foil. Despite her attempts at aloofness Betty seems very charmed by Henry once again. Back at Betty’s house, Gina has rearranged their outdoor ornaments, and Hilda declares war.At Mode, Henry and Betty are still talking and flirting. The famous Rudolf the Red-Noised Reindeer movie is brought up. Then the lights go dark and it looks like her dream from the beginning. She jumps up just as he’s about to ask about the greenery on her desk, telling him he should go. He look sad and leaves. Amanda is decorating one of the Mode trees and Betty discovers the ring Amanda still had stuck on her finger. They rush into the women’s restroom and Betty realizes the ring is Daniel’s and she is furious. Betty works to help her get it off her finger while Amanda assures her she doesn’t have feeling for Daniel anymore. Seeing the rings made her realize he just didn’t want to commit to her. Betty falls to the ground after a particularly hard yank on the ring, and Amanda is still talking about having no feelings left at all and she assures Betty she will get the ring back before Daniel notices. A threatening man dressed in all black enters the elevator after Marc, scaring him to death. The man asks if he knows Marc St. James to which Marc replies “I hate that guy.” Marc gets off the elevator where the office party is in full swing. Amanda is behind her reception desk, dancing and trying to remove the ring at the same time. Marc asks Amanda “Are you packing heat?” Amanda says “Always.” She assures him no one there has a gun.Amanda tells Betty she is radiant. They chat about what a good job Amanda did on the party. Amanda asks Betty if she can run interference to prove herself. She dances off to distract the model that’s all over Daniel. Betty and Henry share a sweet heart-pounding gaze across the room, where she gestures she has powdered sugar on his nose. They giggle and she finds herself charmed by him again. She breaks the gaze quickly. Christina is on Santa’s lap asking for a heart for Wilhelmina, courage for Marc and a brain for Amanda. As Betty heads over to the reception desk, Wilhelmina yells, “Marc!” and Marc pushes Betty up against the wall and tells her she never saw him and ducks into the ladies room. Betty sees Henry heading toward the desk. She dives under the desk and while Henry is opening drawers looking for something, Betty cracks her head the desk. She covers by pointing to a purse and saying “There it is.” She reaches in and accidentally pulls a long string of condoms. She is mortified, and awkwardly says “I was just making sure everyone was being safe. You know, office party hook ups…” He helps her up and takes a few extra seconds to let go of her hand. He tells her to come back to the party because the Beauty department is making snow angels in the fake snow. The stare awkwardly at each other and he leaves. Betty heads back to the party, where Christina and Santa drunkenly stumble to the ladies room. Marc comes out of said bathroom, horrified, and is spotted by Wilhelmina and the guy in black. “We’ve been looking all over for you. Please come with us.” He and Betty guzzle some champagne and he nervously follows them.Daniel is by himself in his office when Erin comes in. She comes on to him, and from outside Betty sees her kiss Daniel. But before she can do anything, Amanda steps in, bursts into Daniel’s office reminding him he’s engaged. He stares at his palms “Dry as a bone.” Daniel tells Erin he’s in love with someone else , and she leaves. Betty smiles, seemingly proud of Amanda.Hilda walks in the house with the head of a plastic reindeer that’s blinking. Ignacio tells her to give Gina a break because her parents are out of town. The lights go out and outside, Gina is sprawled out on their front steps, tangled in lights. Hilda wonders why everything must be a competition with her, and Gina says she can never win with her. Hilda ask her inside for eggnog and then the lights come back on. “It’s a Christmas miracle!” Justin exclaims.Marc, the guy in black and Wilhelmina walk through a dark garage, where Marc swears to Wilhelmina he won’t say anything. The headlights of a 2007 Hummer blink on. “Merry Christmas, Marc, ” she says. The guy in black is from an auto place, and Marc realizes Wilhelmina’s trying to buy his silence, to which he assures her that’s a definite possibility. Back at in Daniel’s office, Betty tells Daniel Amanda is the best person to replace her. “I wouldn’t leave if I didn’t know if there wasn’t somewhere here to protect you. And tonight Amanda proved that she can.” Daniel agrees, and Betty gets a little choked up, saying, “So, if you are serious about this, then I guess this is good-bye.”Daniel hands her a box from Tiffany’s, which is a business card holder with new business cards for her new position at MYW. Betty tears up more, thanking him for everything. Daniel says he’s proud of her and that she’s destined for bigger things. They hug and they both look really sad. She goes to leave and asks him if the other gifts (the notebook and snow globe) were from him. He doesn’t know anything about them. She wishes him a Merry Christmas and leaves.Out at her desk, she once again locks eyes with Henry, who is goofily dancing at the party. He waves at herDaniel calls Sofia and leaves a message, saying… “You do take my breath away.” Betty and Henry gaze longingly at each other.”You make my heart beat faster. You make my palms sweat…” Amanda looks at Daniel from outside his office, noticing her own palms. “But that doesn’t mean I don’t love you. It’s means I do.”The ring slips off Amanda finger. Sometimes your heart knows things your mind can’t explain.”Henry and Betty continue their gaze.”And my heart doesn’t race for anyone else. I love you, Sofia.” He goes to hang up and then stops and says, “It’s Daniel, by the way.” More staring from Henry and Betty. Their gaze is interrupted by someone passing between them. When Henry comes into Betty’s sight again, Betty sees Daniel’s ex-girlfriend kissing him. She looks devastated and runs out. He’s clearly trying to fend her off. Once the kiss breaks, he immediately looks back to where Betty was, and he runs after her to the elevator and asks where she’s going. She simply looks at him as the elevator door closes. Betty comes home to Gina in her living room. Gina is giving Hilda makeup tips and Betty’s dad is asking Justin if the thing in his hand needs more glitter. “Did hell freeze over?” Betty asks.Amanda is cleaning up the party and Daniel tells her that Betty thinks she should be his new assistant. He offers her the job. She is thrilled and they shake on it, promising to be professionals. Ted LeBeau walks into Wilhelmina’s office. “Looks like I missed some party.” he drawls. Back at home, Betty’s worries to Hilda “What if I’m 45 and I’ve never been on a plane?” Hilda assures her she’s a dreamer, and she can do whatever she wants. Betty shows her a Polaroid from the party of her and Walter, and Hilda tells her that Walter loves her very much. Betty just wants to know for sure. “Like when your heart races and your palms sweat…” The doorbell rings. It’s Walter, who breezes by Betty. “How come your Christmas lights spell Hilda sucks?”He ask her if she’s ready for her last present. Betty realizes the other gifts were from him. She opens the gift as the phone rings. Hilda answers and it’s Henry. She tells him Betty’s busy. Henry tells Hilda to let Betty know that the Rudolf movie is on the next night and to call him if she wanted to watch it together. Hilda writes the message down, but then throws it away.Walter’s last gift is a calendar and he tells her he wants to be part of her life in Manhattan. She seems to find this sweet and thanks him. They kiss and Walter nonchalantly takes his coat off while Betty remains frozen on the couch, staring at her palms. Sad piano music plays as a clock tick. The camera pans backs and a clocks ticks loudly.

After Hours
As another working day passes at MODE, Daniel finds his working day cut out for him trying to find a freelance reporter to do an article for newly opened hotel. And for Betty, who just arrived with his bagel (which by the way got wet as she handed it to him), it looks like he has found the person who can write the review.

After accepting the assignment from Daniel, Betty realized that this was a dream come true. But there was one problem: She and Walter had made plans to go to Atlantic City that weekend, and Walter is none too happy about that because he was hoping that they wouldn’t miss The Price Is Right live show. Betty tried to get him to come along but Walter said no so she went by herself. As she arrived to the hotel she found herself surrounded by the VIP treatment and as expected her out-of-her-element trademark was evident after sitting in a bubble chair, handing her Metropass card to the bellboy and trying to control a TV set. Later on in the evening Betty is given a massage by a handsome guy, only to be interrupted by a surprise guest, Walter.After she clears up the explanation in order to calm down his jealousy, both Betty and Walter agreed to spend time in the hotel, just as long as Betty can finish her review, which also includes a dinner at the hotel’s fancy restaurant. However Betty (who decides to wear her high school prom dress) insists that Walter dress formally for it, which is not sitting well with Walter. As they look at the less-than-desirable cuisine in the restaurant, Walter’s frustration starts to get to him and tells Betty that he is jealous of her working at MODE and he doesn’t know her anymore ever since she started working there even as Betty defended her job, but in the end Walter got up and left her.After realizing what Walter said days later, Betty left a message on his phone to apologize. After returning home Betty sees Walter sitting on her steps; they later kissed and made up after she told him that despite her job she is still a Queens girl.However her article was rejected by Daniel because it wasn’t right for MODE. Upset over the rejection, Betty sought solace in the bathroom when Sofia Reyes came to give her encouragement and then told Betty that she will publish the article in her magazine. After she left, Betty’s mood turns to excitement as she does a dance in the bathroom. Meanwhile Daniel found himself dealing with a new occupant in the magazine’s conference room, Sofia. Daniel is none too happy that she is now taking up space as she prepares to launch her new mag. And as the banter between the two continues, along with the sexual tension and accusations over his womanizing and her being a tease, it wouldn’t be long before they would give in to the temptation after the two shared an evening of unwinding over a game of pool at a bar. But when you think that this romance was about to steam up, get ready for a cool down because the following day after Sofia finished up using the conference room Daniel was hoping that they would hook up for another night together, only to have Sofia drop a bombshell; she has a boyfriend.In Bradford’s office Wilhelmina is given a task that would guarantee a major deal as Bradford asks her to entertain a department store chain mogul from Texas. After being convinced by Bradford she and Marc agrees to it. As Wilhelmina and Marc transform the office into “The Lone Star State,” the two get a chance to learn more about their guest, who arrives just in time to be given the intro and pitch by Wilhelmina (who also was thinking of Nico and the care packet she sent to her). But the Texan wants a lot more excitement than just the pitch, so instead of a planned dinner reservation, the guest takes Wils and Marc to a honky tonk bar, where the women wear a shirt with a menu list and belly shots take on a new meaning. After an evening of shots, the guest revealed that he will sign the deal after telling them that he was impressed before he thought of the bar idea and told Wilhelmina about what it is like to be a parent.Over at the Suarez’s, Hilda told Ignacio that she might find a way to pay Leah so she can represent him, and that is to get the money from her former boyfriend Santos, who also happens to be Justin’s father. Hearing the word of Santos does not sit well with either Ignacio or Justin, but Hilda assured her father and son that this was the only way. Later in the evening Hilda sees Santos playing dominoes and approaches him to ask about the money. Santos then pulls out a roll and gives it to Hilda on the condition that he sees Justin later in the evening.After she shows Ignacio the money her dad was none too happy because of Santos’ background, and was made worse when she said he was stopping by, but he failed to show up. Hours later Santos does show up at the Suarez’s…beaten up by thugs who wanted the money he gave Hilda. Hilda then treated his wounds and told him that he can still come by for Thanksgiving; but when Hilda told Justin about those plans Justin was hoping that it would be Martha Stewart instead of his father that would show up for the dinner.
