What makes South Park so popular?
Matt Stone as well as Trey Parker created an American animated Sitcom called as South Park for Comedy Central for television network. This animated sitcom is expected to be for the audience who are matured. But this show got bad reputation due to its surreal, crude, dark humor and satirical that satire a large extent of topics.
The show consists of four children Kenny McCormick, Eric Cartman, Kyle Broflovski and Stan Marsh and it narrates their unconventional adventures in Colorado town of South Park. South Park is a large and longest running fun base animated shows of America.
The creators of this south park don’t have any fear and would target anyone for a good laugh even though they are questioned by media and many other people who are annoyed. They don’t even care to defame the scared religious figures for their fun.
One of the examples why some people were overcome with fear at the media is, when South Park aired an episode where Satan was shown holding the Halloween party in the hell where people are anticipated to wear costumes. Someone who appears in Steve Irwin costume along with one stingray piercing him is spotted by the Satan. He remarks about the costume by saying that it’s “too soon”. On hearing this, the person replies back that it is not any costume or any fake piercing. It is really Steve Irwin who has come to the party at hell. The Satan replies to this by saying that he should leave the party because the party is for the costumes only. This scene terrified many people around the world, but Trey and Matt made no attempt to make any apologies and instead stood by their own work.
It has come with a lot of fresh ideas. South Park did hundreds of episodes consisting of original and creative ideas that cannot be denied, when the industry is full with boring sequels and re-hashed plots.
An “Ocean’s Eleven” styled theft episode that had the McCain and the Obama’s attempting at the elections was really a creative strategy. The one in which South Park boys wanted to sue Spielberg and Lucas on charges of raping Indiana Jones, also within the same episode only Cartman was shown trying to defend an imaginary Chinese invasion as “American Liberation Front”. To imagine that these kinds of episodes are being run on any series other than the South Park is quite hard to believe. In spite of all these, the episode that earned the South Park its highest ratings since 1999 as the shows best watched premier is “Look out Lady” though it offended many millions the same time.
Though it provides hundreds of episodes that are originally comedic, South Park has succeeded in creating a large fan following in Television. It also stands out alone as a lone champion fighting. Both Trey parker as well as Matt Stone can proudly and boldly take credit for making millions of people to laugh and helped in bringing about a change. This change extends their borders of the show as they are constantly on the political talk shows and the news with their famous bold messages. Thus being a motivator for a group of people which proudly identify themselves as the “South Park Republicans” like the more recently formed “South Park Libertarians”. Trey and Matt have been successful in creating and impression that goes beyond the simple comedy.
